Our Cables are color-coded, with each color representing a different amount of resistance. We have weights from 10lbs –100lbs of resistance.
Occasionally, we hear from customers who have had the same Cables for 10 years or more, but, if you use the Cables regularly, we recommend that you replace them at least once every 12 months. You can extend the life of your cables by keeping them in a cool, dry place out of direct sunlight or other heat, and wiping them down regularly. Inspect for damage before each use. Do not use if damaged including: cracks, tears, discoloration or other unusual signs of wear.
There are several advantages. First of all, almost all of our products are portable, and most weigh less than 2 lbs. From a functional standpoint, the biggest difference is that our Cables provide variable resistance. For example, if you are doing a bicep curl with a 50 lb. dumbbell, the exercise actually gets EASIER as your forearm and the dumbbell get further above a parallel line to the floor. This is due to the leverage of your elbow assisting in the exercise. With our Cables, the resistance increases as the Cable is stretched, offsetting the leverage of your elbow. Finally, Cables provide a much smoother exercise through the entire range of motion.
Lifeline uses only dipped rubber tubing, while many of our competitors use extruded rubber. The difference? Extruded rubber tubing is much cheaper, and is made by forcing rubber through a die, resulting in one thicklayer of rubber, similar to how a rubber band is made. If there are any defects in this layer, the Cable will fail prematurely. Dipped rubber is made similar to how a candle is made, where the tubing is dipped numerous times in liquid rubber, resulting ina buildup of many independent layers. In fact, if you look at the end of our Cables under magnification, you will see rings similar to the trunk of a tree. With dipped rubber, if one layer is weak, the other layers compensate for it and the Cable lasts much longer, provides smoother resistance and will not fail.
To check, simply look for the ‘tree rings’ on the edge of the end of the cable, or take a 12 inch length and stretch it 3x the original length. An extruded band will stretch nicely and then suddenly ‘hit a wall.’ In contrast, a Lifeline dipped cable will stretch smoothly and gradually build up force as you elongate it.
In addition to the quality of the Lifeline resistance cables, we also take great care to ensure the attachment points in handles, door anchors and cable pockets are smooth and rounded, without any sharp edges. This is both more comfortable on your skin and will reduce cable wear. Many common exercise bands use a metal ring, or ‘grommet’ to hold the cable. This is a relatively sharp object, and it also only grips the cable with a small surface area. Lifeline’s tapered cable pockets spread out the force on the band across the entire tapered area. This simple difference in our patented open-cable-pockets allow cables to last up to 10X longer than grommet designs!
We sell extra set of three cables for each of those items.
